Paulette Moore
Educator/Filmmaker
Moore is a documentary filmmaker, educator and journalist with narrative films rising. Through her work with established and emerging media she explores how media, power, community, conflict, justice, and aesthetic work to connect, inspire and inform. Moore's 25 years of freelance work includes directing, producing and writing for National Geographic, Discovery Channel, History Channel, PBS, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), and ABC.
Moore is an associate professor of the practice of media arts and peacebuilding at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, VA. Her undergraduate and graduate courses include media for societal change, documentary and narrative film, audio production, social media, pop culture and mass communication, and arts-based peacebuilding and research. Moore recently collaborated with her undergraduate students on the documentary "To Wisconsin with Love" about a potential mine threatening the pristine water and landscape of Northern Wisconsin and Lake Superior.
In 2012 Moore and her students created the documentary "Weaving Life" about a humanitarian aid worker's extraordinary life in Afghanistan and his tragic death in 2010. The film was shown on 130 local ABC stations in fall of 2012.
Moore is a PhD candidate in Media and Communication and Continental Philosophy at European Graduate School in Saas-Fee, Switzerland. Her dissertation explores how and why mainstream cinema resists representing the body.
